Welcome to the 2nd rotation of music

Hello all,
Welcome to Music 9. I hope everyone enjoyed the snow day. We have completed our first performance on the keyboard and have started our first piece. This week we will have our first written test on Friday. It will be on everything we have covered recently, notes, treble clef, keyboard, rhythm, vocab, classroom rules. Next week we will have our first keyboard test and be working on increasing our music vocabulary.

Final Test - Wednesday

Students have their last test tomorrow, Wednesday. It will cover everything this semester in Music. Final marks should be ready on Monday. Review Centres

This week is the beginning of a review for the Big final test next Wednesday. We are completing 7 different activity stations that cover numerous topics. It is an opportunity for students to ask questions, try hands on activities and review knowledge. The final test will be on everything that we have done this year. Thursday and Friday next week will be an opportunity for students to catch up anything they have missed before moving to Art. Have a great week.

Activity Centres

Hello,
I hope you had a great weekend and enjoyed your extra couple of days. Here's the plan for next the week. We will be doing review centres which will cover everything we have done. Make sure you ask questions and understand music notes, rhythm, keyboard, listening exercises, vocab...everything we have done so far. We only have 8 days left in music. Please make the most of it and complete all your work.

Dates to remember

We are 3 weeks away from the end of the first rotation, Nov 23 is the last day. We have 4 major assignments left: 1 keyboard test, listening test, centre activity assignment, Final test. Here is an update of days that students do not need to be in school.

Nov 9 - Student conferences (1:30 - 3:30pm)
Nov 12 - Civic Holiday (remembrance day)
Nov 13 - Curriculum Development day

Projects are due next week. Presentations are on Wednesday and Thursday. Report card marks go in on Wednesday so make sure to get all your work in on time. The written part is worth 10% of your final mark. Good luck.

We created and performed a rhythm composition for music class on Friday. Here are some pictures. I am trying to figure out how to post the sound files. Hope they will be done soon. Students have a test Friday this week. Next Tuesday, Oct 16, there is no school for students as teachers are getting some professional development. Have a great weekend.

Notice of Invitation to participate in YAC

Hello,
The fredericton Community Foundation's Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is looking for new members. Students would be on a committee that allocates and advises regarding funds to support youth in our area. The first meeting will be Tuesday, Oct 9th at 6:30pm at 390 King St, Fredericton (above Robert Simmonds). For more information contact c0qvi@unb.ca or 260-7606, Jordan McLeod.

Recap of the week and plans for next week.

Hello,
This has been a busy week. We are have finished Frere Jacques and have started When the Saints go marching in. I have introduced the most challenging music topic this year - Time signature and we are doing well. Some students who struggle with math, equivalent factions specifically will have difficulties with this programme. For next week we will be learning Italian vocabulary, tempo terms and an Frere Jacques keyboard test. Hope you have a great weekend.

Open House

Sept 20th is OHS' Open House. Everyone is welcome. Hope to see you there.
We are done our first keyboard test and first piece, Ode to Joy. We will have our second written testFriday on rhythm, treble/bass cleff, vocab and listening excercises. We 'travelled' to Mexico and Cameroon this week. Next week will be starting our first two-handed piece, Frere Jacques and musical math, time signature.
